Important notice: It is the applicant's responsibility to notify the NSH office if they receive another bursary or funding which covers the applicant’s funding for food. If the applicant does not comply with this responsibility, the applicant agrees by way of this application that NSH has the right to be refunded out of the student’s UFS account from the date on which they received the other bursary which provides funding for food. NSH is not obligated to notify the applicant if such information is confirmed with the UFS Finance Department. By signing the application form, the student gives the UFS and NSH permission to refund NSH in such an instance. If any information supplied by the applicant is found to be incorrect and/or false, the student will be required to pay back the full amount that NSH has paid to the applicant. The UFS and NSH reserves the right to institute criminal action against any student who provides false documentation or information in this application.

The following criteria serve as selection guidelines, but each student's individual circumstances and letter of motitivation will be considered:

  1. Bona fide (currently registered) UFS Students.
  2. First-generation students.
  3. Family income of less than R350 000 per annum.
  4. Successful study record.
NSFAS Students will not be considered

Documentation must not be older than three months.

  • Please submit your results!! Academic record
  • Proof of income: attach proof of income for your parent(s)/guardian(s)/spouse as well as any other persons (older than 18) who are officially part of your household and who are receiving an income. A bank statement must be attached if your mother or guardianis a housewife. Students are not allowed to make affidavits on behalf of their parents.
  • Proof of admission/registration: proof of admission/ registration must be attached for all persons (except applicant) who are officially part of your household and who will be students in the subsequent year.
  • Other income: child grants, pension, interest, or profit from buying and selling of goods should be confirmed by documentation, such as pension slips or bank statements.

  • Self-employed parents: must submit a sworn affidavit stating source of income and bank statements.
  • Unemployment: individual affidavits must be attached if your parent(s)/guardian(s)/spouse or any other persons (older than 18) who are officially part of your household are unemployed. State how in come is derived or family is supported (state amount).
  • Living separately: if your parents are separated and not legally divorced, an affidavit to this effect by one of the parents and proof of income for both parents must be attached.
  • Divorced: a certified copy of the divorce decree (including maintenance payable) must be attached if your parents are legally divorced.
  • Deceased: 2 certified copy or copies of the death certificate(s) must be attached if y our parent(s) is/are deceased.
  • Farmers/businesses: in the case of farmers and businesses, the latest (not older than one year) tax notice of assessment (ita34) or latest financial statements of parent(s) must be attached.
  • Guardianship: a court order or affidavit from the guardian must be attached as proof in this case. Grandparents or other family members cannot act as guardians if the biological parents are still alive, except in a case where a court order has been issued (the court order must be attached).

The application must include a one page motivation indicating why they should be considered for the NSH Bursary.
